The maths, in one line

A standard atomiser on a fragrance bottle delivers roughly 0.07 to 0.10ml per press. That works out at about 10 to 15 sprays per millilitre.

So:

Cost per spray = (bottle price divided by bottle size in ml) divided by 12.

Twelve is a fair working average. Use 10 if your bottle has a generous atomiser, 15 if it delivers a fine mist.

Two things jump out.

The first is how cheap the everyday case is. Wearing Sauvage daily costs you around ten dollars a month. Most people carry a vague sense that they are being extravagant, and they are not.

The second is the spread. Aventus costs roughly six times per spray what Sauvage does. If you own both, the same three-spray habit is a different expense depending on which bottle you reach for, and almost nobody adjusts for that.

Why this number is worth knowing

It stops the saving. The most common expensive mistake in fragrance is not overuse, it is a bottle kept for special occasions until its top notes have degraded. At 75 cents a spray, wearing Aventus on an ordinary Tuesday is not reckless. Losing half a bottle to evaporation over three years is.

It tells you what is actually in your pocket. A 5ml fill of Sauvage holds about $7 of liquid. A 5ml fill of Aventus holds about $45. Same container, wildly different stakes, and it should change how carefully you choose that container.

Now compare that with the same fragrance bought in a full bottle and carried in a refillable container. The liquid is identical. The only difference is who bottled it and how many times you buy the packaging.
