Is there an official Initio travel size?

Not that we could find. Initio's own store lists Oud for Greatness in its full-size bottles, and the house runs discovery and initiation sets, but we found no branded travel case, no refill vial system and no 10ml travel spray listed as an Initio product.

That puts Initio in a different position from Chanel, Parfums de Marly or Maison Francis Kurkdjian, all of which sell their own travel cases with proprietary refills. With Initio there is no closed system to opt into, because there is no system.

If that changes, it will show up on Initio's own site first. Until then, treat any listing described as an Initio travel spray as third-party until proven otherwise.

What a rebottled travel spray actually is

Independent decanting sellers buy full bottles, transfer the fragrance into their own small sprayers, and sell those. The reputable ones disclose it clearly. One UK bottler states on its listings that the fragrance is genuine Initio, rebottled by them, supplied in plastic spray bottles, and that they are completely independent and not affiliated with Initio.

Read that carefully and note three things. It is real Initio. It is not sold or handled by Initio. And it is in plastic.

None of that makes decants illegitimate. For trying a fragrance before buying a bottle, they are the sensible option and often the only one at this price level. But two details matter for a fragrance like this one.

Plastic and oud are a poor combination. Plastic can pick up scent over time, and a heavy natural oud composition is exactly the kind of fragrance that lingers in a container. Metal or glass is the better vessel.

You cannot verify the handling. How long the bottle was open, how it was stored, what the transfer conditions were. With a sealed brand product you are trusting the house. With a decant you are trusting the seller.

How to spot one before you buy

• The listing uses a photo of the retail bottle but ships something else. Look for wording like the retail bottle shown is for illustration only.
• Words like decant, rebottled, independent bottler, or not affiliated anywhere in the description.
• Sizes the brand does not sell. If Initio does not list a 10ml, a 10ml is not from Initio.
• A plastic atomiser in the product photography.

Honest sellers put all of this in writing. The ones that do not are the ones to avoid.

The alternative if you own the bottle

If Oud for Greatness is already on your shelf, the whole question is moot. You do not need anyone to rebottle it for you. You need a container.
