You will be left looking at a short plastic tube standing proud of the metal collar. That is the stem, and that is all a bottom-fill atomiser needs. Press the atomiser down onto it, pump five or six times, lift off. Ten seconds, no funnel, no spillage, no waste.

Push the nozzle back on afterwards and the bottle is exactly as it was. Nothing about this damages anything. The nozzle is designed to be removable.

Three mistakes that make a good bottle look incompatible

Nearly every reported fit problem is one of these three, and all of them are fixable in seconds.

Twisting instead of pulling. Crimped nozzles come off with a straight upward pull. Twisting binds them and makes them feel fixed.

Not pulling hard enough. On a new bottle the nozzle can be stiff. Grip it properly and pull with real force. It is meant to come off.

Pumping before the seal is seated. This is the big one, and it looks exactly like incompatibility. If the atomiser is not pressed fully down onto the stem, pumping forces fragrance back out over the top instead of drawing it in. Seat it firmly first, then pump. The rare exceptions

For completeness, two bottle types do not have a stem to draw from.

Splash bottles with no pump at all. Mostly vintage bottles and some traditional attars. There is no spray mechanism, so there is nothing to seat onto. A blunt-tipped syringe transfers these cleanly.

A few bottles built around a brand's own refill programme, where the whole collar unscrews so it can be topped up from a large refill bottle. If your top unscrews as one piece and leaves a flat opening, use a syringe instead.
