How to Refill a Perfume Atomiser

Refilling a perfume atomiser sounds like it should be simple. Sometimes it is. Sometimes you end up with fragrance on your hands, a faint smell of wasted perfume, and a vague sense that something went wrong. Here's a clear guide to the main methods — and which one actually works.

Method 1: The funnel method

The oldest approach: remove the spray nozzle from your perfume bottle, use a small funnel or pipette to transfer liquid into the atomiser, then reseal. It works, but it's fiddly. Small funnels are hard to find, the transfer is slow, and there's almost always spillage. Each time you open the bottle to the air, you're also letting fragrance evaporate and oxidise — subtly degrading quality over time. Fine for a one-off, not great if you're refilling regularly.

Method 2: The pump adapter method

Some atomisers use an adapter that attaches to the top of your perfume bottle nozzle. You pump or squeeze the fragrance up through a tube. Cleaner than the funnel method, but it has its own problems: the adapter has to fit your bottle's nozzle precisely, and not every nozzle format is the same across brands. It also tends to leave residue in the tube, which means waste and a cleaning step.

Remove the base cap from your SPRITZ atomiser — it twists or pulls off depending on the model.
Hold your perfume bottle upright on a flat surface. Don't tilt it.
Press the open base of the SPRITZ firmly down onto the bottle nozzle. You'll feel it seat against the pump stem.
Hold in place for 8–10 seconds. The fragrance draws up automatically — you don't need to pump or press.
Replace the base cap and you're done.

One fill gives you approximately 50–100+ sprays depending on which size atomiser you have. The Hepburn (5ml) gives around 50–75 sprays. The Warhol (8ml) and Olivier (10ml) give proportionally more.
