Most travel atomisers are the same thing: a plastic tube, a flimsy pump, and a refill mechanism that takes ten minutes and wastes half your fragrance. They work, technically. They also leak in your bag, look cheap, and fall apart inside a year.

The fill mechanism isn't a nightmare
Bottom-fill atomisers push directly onto your perfume bottle's stem. No funnel. No spillage. Fill in under ten seconds. This is the standard worth expecting.
Build quality
Plastic atomisers break. The pump degrades, the casing cracks, the nozzle sticks. Metal — aluminium or stainless steel — lasts significantly longer and doesn't absorb fragrance over time the way plastic does.
Size
5ml is the sweet spot for carry-on travel. It's 50-60 sprays — enough for a week. Under 100ml so it goes in your liquids bag without a thought. 10ml if you're carrying two scents or want the capacity for a longer trip.

Same build, matte black, 10ml. If you rotate scents or want the extra capacity, this is the one. The all-black finish is harder to find at this build quality.
What to Skip
Anything with a funnel-fill mechanism. Anything plastic under £10 from a generic brand. Anything with a friction dust cap instead of a proper lock. Solid perfume "atomisers" that aren't atomisers at all.
The Short Answer
If you travel regularly and you wear fragrance, buy a metal bottom-fill atomiser once and stop thinking about it. The Travalo works. The Hepburn is better built. Both solve the problem of carrying your actual cologne bottle through security.
What you want to avoid is the bottom of the market — plastic, friction caps, funnel fill. They work until they don't, and they tend to not work inside your bag at the worst possible moment.
